You've seen the emails from the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (OCISO) concerning the upcoming expiration of your password. You know you need to set it to something new, but aren't sure how to do that. No worries, we'll show you two methods for updating your password.

If you came here to learn how to reset your password in the cases of forgetting it or letting it expire, you should check these articles instead:

Prerequisites

Before resetting your password using IDme, you must first have registered with the portal. If you have not already registered with the portal, take a look at our guide for help.

Depending on your selections when you registered with the portal, you will need one of the following:

  • access to your alternate email address
  • the mobile authenticator app on your smartphone

Method 1: Using the Change Password Button

This is the quickest method for setting your password and does not require you to first log in to the portal and navigate through the Account Management settings.

  1. Navigate to the IDme portal located at https://IDme.tntech.edu.
*the page should read "IDme" and look like the following (desktop, left; mobile, right).

  2. Select the Change Password link below the Login button.

  3. You will be prompted for your username and password. Supply them, then select Continue.

  4. To verify the account, one of the registered methods must be used. Select the method of verification you prefer (challenge questions or one-time passcode) and select Continue.

The default method of verification is your alternate email address. Use the code provided there for the OTP prompt in IDme.

However, if you wish to use a different method of verification, select "Problems with OTP?" to see the available enrolled options, which may include challenge questions or mobile authenticator instead.

    reCAPTCHA

You may be asked to complete a reCAPTCHA task before proceeding. If so, select the checkbox beside "I'm not a robot", select the images that apply to the prompt, and finish by clicking Verify.

    Didn't find your OTP?

Sometimes, you may not find an OTP email waiting for you in your alternate email account. This could be for various reasons. If you did not find the OTP email, try the following:

    • wait a few minutes for the email to arrive
    • refresh the webpage for your alternate email account (Windows - F5 key, Ctrl+R; Mac - Cmd+R)
    • check the Junk folder for your alternate email account
    • resend the OTP from the password portal

  5. After the OTP has been entered or challenge questions answered, the Set Password prompt will be displayed. The complexity rules will be shown as a reference and will update as each one is satisfied.

All complexity requirements must be satisfied for a password to be accepted.
