Overview

This article guides you in moving files from LabDrive to OneDrive using Windows and Mac OS X.

LabDrive is a network storage drive of 5GB offered to any student using a Lab on campus including VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) labs.  It is intended to provide temporary storage for students during the semester for completing academic work.

As LabDrive is intended as temporary storage, the following article will outline the steps necessary to move files from this temporary semester storage to a more permanent solution available to all Tech students: OneDrive.

Moving a file between LabDrive and OneDrive on Windows

  1. To access LabDrive, select the File Explorer (#1) icon File Explorer iconin the taskbar. In the File Explorer window, look to the left-side navigation and select This PC (#2).

  2. In Windows Explorer, you should see LabDrive in the list of Network Locations.

  3. Double click on LabDrive (U:) to view the contents of the drive. Inside, you will find your Documents folder.

  4. In the Documents folder you are free to open, edit, and/or delete files as needed.  For the purposes of this tutorial, we will move the “Test.txt” file to OneDrive.

  5. Open a web browser of your choice (i.e. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari) and go to the Tennessee Tech website.

  6. At the top-right of the Tech homepage, choose the Express menu (#1), then choose Student Email (#2).

  7. You will be taken to the login page for student email with Office 365. Log in with your Tech student username and password.

  8. Once logged in, you will be taken to your email landing page.  In the top left corner, you will see an icon resembling this: Office365 app icon. It is the menu used to access all the other features of your Tech Office365 student account. Click it.

  9. Choose the OneDrive icon.

  10. In your OneDrive folder, you should see options to search, create, upload, manually sync, or open files. Choose Upload from the available options.

  11. A File Explorer window will open. From here, navigate to your LabDrive and choose the files you wish to upload to OneDrive. In this case, we'll be uploading the Test.txt file mentioned in an earlier step. Choose the file and click Open.

  12. Once the upload has finished, you should see the file(s) in your OneDrive.

Moving a file between LabDrive and OneDrive on OS X

  1. On the OS X desktop, select the drive labeled with your username. This is your LabDrive.

  2. From the Finder window that appears, you will the drive you opened. Within that drive is a Documents folder.

  3. In the Documents folder you are free to open, edit, and/or delete files as needed.  For the purposes of this article, we will move the “Test.txt” file to OneDrive.

  4. Open a web browser of your choice (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, or Safari) and go to the Tennessee Tech website.

  5. At the top-right of the Tech homepage, choose the Express menu (#1), then choose Student Email (#2).

  6. You will be taken to the login page for student email with Office 365. Log in with your Tech student username and password.
