Overview

This page details how users can install and access the VPN using computers they have administrative access to while using an off-campus internet connection. 

The VPN is available for Windows 10 and for Apple macOS 10.12 (Sierra) and higher.

When Do I Need the VPN?

The VPN is needed at all times while working remotely and accessing TTU business and restricted resources. The VPN does not need to be connected when working hours have ended, unless accessing TTU business and restricted resources.

VPN Requirements

The VPN is available via TTU mobile devices. In order to gain access to the VPN on a personal device, a documented exception must be made. Otherwise, the use of the VPN on a personal device is prohibited. The installation of Sophos Antivirus will be required. Please contact Information Security for questions at 931-372-3913. Contact the myTECH Helpdesk to start an exception request.

The SonicWall NetExtender client is being deprecated. If you are still attempting to use this VPN client, please follow the steps below.

Connecting to the VPN

To connect to the Connect Tunnel VPN:

  1. Click Connect.
  2. Your browser should open to IDme. Enter your TTU username & password.
    1. Note - If you are already logged in to TechExpress, you will instead be taken to a redirect page and will not need to log in again. This window can be closed.
  3. The Connect Tunnel window should automatically close, confirming that the VPN has connected successfully.

Verifying Connectivity

To verify you are connected to the VPN:

  1. Double-click the Connect Tunnel shortcut or taskbar icon.
  2. Confirm that the status reads "Connected".
  3. For additional connection information:
    1. Click the blue "Connection Information" icon.
    2. Scroll through the information listed in the dialog box. This should show General info, confirm an encrypted tunnel, and show statistics such as Time Connected.
  4. Close the dialog box when done reviewing the information.

Disconnecting from the VPN

When done connecting to TTU business and restricted resources:

  1. Open the Connect Tunnel VPN client via shortcut or taskbar icon.
  2. Verify the status is "Connected".
  3. Click Disconnect.
  4. A toast notification will confirm the VPN is disconnected.
