Overview

This page details how users can install and access the VPN using computers they have administrative access to while using an off-campus internet connection. 

The VPN is available for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10, and for Apple OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) and higher.

These instructions will guide you through the setup of the new VPN client for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10.

  1. Go to https://vpn.tntech.edu.  Sign in using your TTU credentials (same as your campus email, but without the @tntech.edu in the username); use TTU (case sensitive) as the domain:

    The site https://vpn.tntech.edu is only available from an off-campus network connection.

  2. After logging into the site, click the "Downloads" link on the top right:

  3. On the next page, select the Windows.exe NetExtender client:

  4. A file, NXSetupU.exe, will download.  Find the file (likely in the Downloads folder), and double-click it to begin installation.

  5. On the Welcome to the SonicWall NetExtender Setup Wizard window, click Next.
  6. On the License Agreement window, select the I accept the terms of the License Agreement radio button, and then click Next.
  7. On the Choose Install Location window, the default path is sufficient, so click Next.
  8. On the Shortcuts window, select any desired shortcuts, and click Install.
  9. After installation has finished, select Finish

  10. The application should open and you will be prompted for certain parameters.  Enter the following:
    Server: vpn.tntech.edu
    Username: your TTU email username without the "@tntech.edu"
    Password: your TTU email account password
    Domain: TTU (case sensitive)

  11. A connection window will open as the connection is established:

  12. Once connected, you should see a status window:

These instructions will guide you through the setup of the new VPN client for Mac OS X, and are valid for versions 10.9 (Mavericks) through 10.12 (Sierra).

To continue, an AppleID will be required. If you do not have an AppleID, we recommend that you create one. Instructions for how to do so can be found at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204316.

  1. Open up the App Store on your Mac.

  2. Search for the application 'SonicWALL Mobile Connect'

  3. Click Get, then click Install App:

  4. You will be prompted for an AppleID and matching password.  Enter those credentials, and click Sign In:

  5. The application will be downloaded and installed.

  6. Once the installation is completed, verify that you are currently logged in as an administrative user. If not, log out, and then log in with an administrator account.
    • If the device is TTU-ownedlog in with your 2-account.
    • If the device is personally owned, you can verify the privilege level of the account by the following
      • Select the Apple logo on the top left, and choose System Preferences

      • In the System Preferences window, select Users & Groups

      • In the Users & Groups window, you will see a list of users on the left.  The current user will be identified as such at the top of the list.  If the current user account is an administrator, there will be a check mark beside Allow user to administer this computer

  7. Using an administrator account, open the Launchpad and find the SonicWALL Mobile Connect. Select it

  8. Select the dropdown menu beside Connection and choose Add connection

  9. You will be prompted to enter the Name and Server for the connection. Enter the following

  10. Click Next to add the connection.

    You may receive a warning prompt stating, "vpn.tntech.edu is either currently unreachable or is not a valid SonicWALL appliance. Would you like to save this connection anyway?" If you receive this prompt, click Save.

  11. Make sure that TTU VPN is the selected connection, and then click Connect. 

  12. When prompted for a Username and Password, enter your TTU domain credentials and click Login

  13. The Status field will read Connecting...

  14. When the connection is established, the Status field will show Connected.
